Get firearms training now!

January 12, 2013

Hello, folks.

Today’s post is going to be kind of short, because the meat of this post is to direct you to the nearest ‘for real’ firearms instructors in your state.

Having a high dollar shootin’ iron like an AR or whatever, loaded down with ‘cool looking’ accessories won’t do squat for you unless you have for real training in it’s use. Beyond plinking at paper targets, we need real experience which is what it takes to make maximum use of whatever firearm you have, be it an old SKS or a shiny new AR. Has to get down to total muscle memory so you don’t even have to think about what you need to do. React and defend yourself without hesitation.

So, here’s the link to a huge list of 310 different firearms training facilities all across the USA, compiled by Mr. Ray Terry and Mr. Jeff Clymer.

If you want the ultimate training “upgrade”, where they teach you to take advantage of and cope with the adrenalin dump we ALL experience when confronted with life threatening danger, then go here: Rocky Mountain Combat Applications Training. If you can’t get that far, then you’ll have to work out some ‘adrenalin dump’ scenarios yourself, because it’s guaranteed all that paper target shooting skill will go right in the crapper during that kind of life threatening encounter. Many people can rapid fire very accurately up against paper targets and timers, but aren’t even able to draw their weapon effectively during a ‘for real’ situation where they are attacked with intent to do bodily harm by the perp.

Short of this specialized training, there’s competition shooting that’s fun, and puts “pressure” on you while you participate. My sport was  Cowboy Action Shooting.  Covered shotgun, revolver and lever action carbine, firing over 100 pistol and rifle rounds and 20 or 30 rounds of 12 gauge per event. Cowboy shooting video   Then there’s more specialized competition shooting such as IDPA competition shooting  where you typically use modern pistols like Glock.

So, get trained, get ready, get prepared for surely the day will come when it will be do or die, protecting your family from the zombie hoards. And above all, don’t stand on the “X” while in combat shooting, by training to move and shoot.

  1. I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both equally educative and
engaging, and without a doubt, you have
hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that too few folks are speaking intelligently
about. I am very happy I found this in my hunt for something
    relating to this.
