In a world without power, what to do for everyday tasks?

December 8, 2012

Hi, Folks.

So, lets say the power grid has been zapped by the EMP we all hear about. The official government stance is, ‘We will have the power back on within 3 months.’ (Yeah, right, how ’bout more like 3 years?) Now, what will we do for all the lovely electricity powered devices that make our modern world so nice?

Pedal power! Good ol’ American ingenuity applied to the situation. Just for an example, here’s a link to making a pedal powered washing machine. http://www.appropedia.org/HSU_Bike_powered_washing_machine

There are loads of other pedal powered contraptions, here’s a link to a large source of those kind of links!  pedal power links

If you shop around, you can find some appliances that are easily adapted to pedal power, right out of the box like this

In a no power, survival after the SHTF event, we will all have to get very clever with what we have at hand. We will probably not be able to buy contraptions like these, but we may have the talent and imagination to build our own.
