Hunting, harvesting and munchin’ down on Giant Puffball Mushrooms.

August 29, 2012

It’s always good to expand one’s knowledge of wild foods, tasty items that can be foraged for free to add to your menu today and especially if the SHTF.

Now, I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m no expert by any means when it comes to foraging for mushrooms. As an untrained rookie, you can wind up severely ill or dead from eating the wrong ones.

So, I’m just going to lead you to a couple ‘experts’ in the field, about how to find them, what to look for and how to prepare them.

First, here’s a video by ‘Bitter root Bob’ with some information. Naturally, there’s a pile of similar videos that come along with the main one here on youtube.

Next, more basic info from a mushroom ‘specialist’ website.

Now, liking mushrooms as I do, I’m thinking I’ll give it a shot this fall at finding some of these babies to fry now and dry for later as well. A tasty item as big as a grapefruit? Yeah, sounds good.

One last tip: Be dead certain about mushrooms, or you could certainly be dead.

  1. My brother used to tell me the same sort of concepts. You’ve really opened my mind to varying ways of looking at the subject with interesting and insightful content. Any new information on this? Just what I’m trying to find. I know seasoned LinkedIn experts would agree with your posts. If you’re able, write me an Email and we will chat because I have an idea I think you will like to hear.
